OUR HISTORY
Blue Cross Pet Hospital was established in 1946 by Dr. Jack Steele. In the 78 years that Blue Cross Pet Hospital has been in operation, the practice of veterinary medicine has changed a great deal. Today, cats and dogs are kept as companions and are often thought of as part of the family. This change in status has been the catalyst for the advances made in veterinary medicine. Preventive care and early detection of illness are now a regular part of veterinary practice, ensuring our pets live longer, healthier lives.
Dr. Faltyn and Dr. Murphy first worked together in 2003. In 2013, they jumped at the opportunity to purchase a practice near their homes in East Vancouver. They are excited to provide compassionate and professional veterinary care to pets and their owners in the East Van area. Since taking over the practice, Dr. Faltyn and Dr. Murphy have updated a lot of equipment around the clinic. We have upgraded from paper files to computer records, which keep the clinic running smoothly and allow us to track your pet’s specific medical needs more efficiently. We have also modernized our equipment including new blood pressure monitoring devices, anesthetic machines, dental equipment, pulse oximeter, intravenous fluid pumps, and perioperative patient warming system. We take pride in providing pets with adequate and safe pain management – such as nerve blocks, preanesthetic sedation, and intraoperative and postoperative pain control. Here at Blue Cross, every precaution is taken during treatments, surgeries, and anesthetics to ensure the comfort and safety of your pet.
It is recommended that your pet have a wellness exam at least once a year. During this appointment the doctor will do a physical exam and can discuss parasite prevention, pet nutrition, and vaccination protocols – which have come a long way in recent years. Effective and safe monthly flea and parasite control is now available through your veterinarian as flavoured, chewable treats, or easy-to-apply topical liquid, making treatment much more pleasant for both owner and pet. We offer a wide range of veterinary exclusive diets, which can assist in the management of a variety of medical conditions. If your pet requires a diet that we do not keep in stock we can likely special order it in just for you! As for vaccinations, our doctors work with owners to devise a vaccination protocol suited specifically to your pet’s lifestyle.
At Blue Cross we are committed to providing excellent patient care and to keeping our clients educated and informed about their pets health. Together, we can plan a course of action specific to your pet to ensure the best possible quality of life.
Thank you for trusting us with your pet’s care.
